AIR SEALING
Air Sealing
Air sealing is a critical step in creating an energy-efficient, comfortable, and durable home. Many houses lose a surprising amount of heat and cooling through hidden cracks, gaps, and penetrations in the building envelope — often around framing, windows, doors, plumbing, wiring, and attic hatches. Even small leaks add up to significant energy waste, higher utility bills, and uncomfortable drafts. By applying specialized foams, caulks, tapes, and gaskets, we seal these problem areas to stop uncontrolled air movement. This improves the performance of any insulation system, since insulation works best when air isn’t flowing through it. Effective air sealing also reduces the risk of condensation inside walls, which can lead to mold growth and structural damage over time. For homeowners, this means lower energy costs, more consistent indoor temperatures, and a noticeable improvement in comfort. For builders, it’s an essential step in meeting BC Energy Step Code requirements and carbon-reduction goals. Combined with proper insulation, air sealing is one of the simplest and most cost-effective upgrades to dramatically improve home performance.
